Yesterday we went to the airport to wait for some friends coming from Dubai with a TAROM flight, stopping over in Otopeni for a few hours in their way to Iasi. The landing was supposed to happen at 8.05 am – but despite the thick fog, there was no delay but on the contrary, the plane landed about 15 minutes earlier than scheduled. Romanians arrive either sooner or later than planned, but very rarely right on time! :)))
And this proved to me one more time that the trains (in Romania) have those terrible delays because of the infrastructure and not of the people working there. Same case on the roads, there are thousands of car crashes not because Romanian drivers are worse than other drivers, but because they had worse Ministries of Transportation than the ones in Bulgaria or even Albania…
And, of course, where were we supposed to sit and gossip about the flight attendants from TAROM and Lufthansa and no matter where else? At a café. Apparently they are not as fat and old as they used to be a few years ago. I saw some myself – it is worth going on a world tour with TAROM, really! ;)
So I was telling you about the café – we found one right on the international arrivals corridor, named SAVOIR VIVRE. So it is not about JOIE DE VIVRE (the joy of living), but “knowing how to live”, which stresses me out a bit because of the responsibility suggested by the name, and reminds me of a movie with Tom Hanks – “The Terminal”. I warmly recommend it to you (they showed it on ProCinema channel recently).
At the entrance an icecream cart welcomes you. This reminded me of another movie, Romanian movie, where a Turk was roaming all over the town with a similar cart, screaming from the top of his lungs “fisticacaovaniiiiiiil…”!
The bar was on the right hand side of the entrance. On the bar counter, the menu cards, kind of worn out, you wouldn’t feel like touching them and going through them.
At one table, a guy was holding some kind of a meeting with two ladies who were very preoccupied to note something down.
When we finally had the guts to put our hands on the greasy menu cards (at a visual level, not necessary at a tactile level) we almost fell off our seats when we saw the first item in the SNAKS section: soup!!! :)))))))))))))))))))
One can also fell off one’s seat, but not of too much laughing, but because of the sky high prices, exaggerated for such a bomb.
The airport bomb-café (very similar to the ones in the train stations when I was young) has a French name, Frank Sinatra’s picture somewhere near the audio system, and Modern Talking was screaming way too loudly from the speakers…
I liked it, though, that their hot chocholate was served with a teaspoon, having a slightly viscous consistency, unlike the usual one, very liquid, being just a cocoa with some flavoring chemicals in it.
My friend had a sandwitch, for the safety of his health, and his wife… pufuleti (some Romanian snack she misses in the Middle East)! :)))
And after I roamed up and down all over “Henry Coanda” - Bucharest (Otopeni) Airport, I got to the conclusion that it would be more efficient for me to buy a helicopter, after I saw it at another friend of mine… ;)

PS - Below you can see the trailer of THE TERMINAL with Tom Hanks in an Oscar part – enjoy!
PS2 - don’t forget to save money to buy a helicopter or at least a ladder and a fan… :)))))
