Life is a Bitch – Season 2, Episode 6

(to be continued from here)

First of all, from the sand dunes I am wishing a Happy New Year to all of you. :).

So, there you go, I spent my first Christmas and New Year’s Eve in Dubai. It happened that I had the day off on Christmas Day just by accident (I could never imagine such luck, so don’t you ever say that there is no God) and I went to the beach (not for basking in the sun obviously because it is too cold for this even here) to see how it was like (deserted, obviously, in this cold) and then I walked in the streets, in the wind. Alone, but it was very good for me. Then I rang my folks back home. Luckily it was a tear free moment, unlike I expected. Then, for New Year’s Eve I worked, just as I expected :). But it was for the best. Even if I worked hard, I was in the middle of a party (Indian one) so it felt like New Year’s Eve. I was even a little bit happy.

Oh, but before Christmas and New Year’s Eve I experienced the first Ramadan in my waitress life, too. This past summer. An extremely... interesting experience, so to speak, I will talk about in another episode. Because it is really worth the story, believe me.

But let me get back to my recent beginnings in Dubai.

So, last time I was saying that I really needed to go to sleep. So I did, I went to sleep and I slept a few good hours, till evening. I woke up because someone was knocking at the door. Initially I didn’t want to go and open the door (I was alone in the room) but I thought it might be the guy who came to fix the shower, so I made a huge effort, got down from my top bed and opened the door. Bingo, it was him, I was right! So shortly after that I had a working shower!! A good reason to suddently decide that I will take a niceeeeee, hotttttttttt shower. Well, I have to admit, life seemed much better afterwards. I was home alone so I set the A/C exactly how I wanted it, I changed myself in some fresh pajams, I climbed to my bed, lay there (there was no place to sit anyway) and started to think in peace at what it had happened to me and was still happening. I had the strange sensation that I was watching a movie and not that it was me who all those things were happening to. I know that I am not the only one to experince this sensation. Anyway, I started to mentally making plans of what to visit during the next few days, then weeks etc. Also, right the next day I was going to play the scout girl and find places nearby where I could go to spend my spare time, sit on a bench and read a book, or just sit and watch the sky or the sea. Because it was crystal clear to me that it was not possible for me to stay in that room more than I really needed to, rest of the time I will be out & about.

Dubai has a lot to offer, indeed. There is everything for everyone and everything was absolutely new for me (now I got a little bit more used to my new home city :). Money is the key word here. And it was a problem for me for that moment. But let’s get over this. It was understood that Burj Al Arab was the first on my list. Wild Wadi (a water park I had heard about) was the second, especially these two were next to each other. Palm Island was the next with its glorious and exraordinary Atlantis with its water park, also glorious and extraordinary, of course, but expensive just the same. And I was definetely going to do a Desert Safari, maybe before all the other things mentioned, and I think for now it was just enough for someone who had no penny in her pocket.

I got sleepy again so that I turned off the light and went to sleep, quite happy with my planning. And in the morning I had to wake up before dawn to be at work at 7 am. Actually, to be in the restaurant at 7 am, which meant I had to reach the hotel much earlier to change into my uniform and have breakfast. And I take a really long time to eat especially at breakfast, in a hardly known place (Cafeteria) with totally unknown food. So, good night for now, guys, till next time :).
